Pawsitive Panther: Marie Goodnature

When it comes to the best last name, Goodnature must win this superlative. Sophomore Marie Goodnature wears her name like a badge of honor and a guide to her personal outlook.

“The name ‘Goodnature’ reflects me very well,” Marie said. “It is a positive name for a positive person.”

Marie’s love for drama reflects this attitude. Poised to be the Thespian president by senior year, she maintains her confidence and perkiness.

“I am so excited about Hairspray. You do not understand,” Marie said. “As assistant stage manager, I am the boss of back stage. If you see the techies backstage, we are dancing. We are always dancing.”

Besides drama, Marie participates in Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). She believes that pressures to use drugs easily influence teenagers. However, Marie does not struggle with this kind of struggle. She describes doing drugs as a decision that can end in inescapable destruction, advising that people “be smart and say no.”

“I have been in the situation where I have been offered drugs and it is easy to say no,” Marie said.

She is writing a student-directed play with junior Kirsten Wall about being in drama during high school. The ticket sales will raise money for “Broadway With Cares,” an organization that funds AIDS research. Students from different schools who usually competing against each other will preform this play together.

This self-proclaimed movie buff hopes to one day conquer the silver screen as a director. Meanwhile, she enjoys participating in drama.

“Being other people is a very interesting experience – like not being Marie Goodnature and being someone like Mrs. Cratchet,” Marie said. “I love the feeling of being someone weird and not being judged for it. Acting is a beautiful experience, everyone should act.”
