PHOTOGALLERY: MPSH’s Holiday Festival

On Wednesday, Dec.19, students at Miami Palmetto Senior High walked into the courtyard to snow in Miami. The artificial snow was a part of MPSH’s annual winter festival where clubs set up tables with games and candy for students to participate in. This year, students dressed in pajamas and listened to holiday music with friends.
Social Science Honor Society made this year’s festival extra special with a hot chocolate booth.
“Social Science Honor Society actually is doing the hot chocolate booth. And, we are right under where it’s snowing, so it looks really nice. It’s fake snowing and you’re indulging in a hot beverage,” Almonte said. “Miami picked a perfect day for it to be 50 degrees outside.”
Various clubs ranging from Debate (pictured) to the National Art Honor Society and Interact Club participated in the festival. Club members set up activities for participants — most of these included candy as a prize for winning.“It really sets the spirit with the snow, the music and all the club’s doing something different,” English Honor Society member and junior Vasyl Romankiv said.
While EHS wrote letters to Santa, the Amnesty International chapter decided to use their booth to “Write for Rights” and support their cause of advocating for human rights. At the festival, club members encouraged students to write letters to Alabama’s Governor to advocate for clemency on behalf of a wrongfully convicted man.“We’re doing a writing where we write about someone who’s falsely convicted in Alabama, his name is Rocky. And he has a disorder, so he was wrongfully convicted. They don’t have enough evidence on him. We’re trying to write to the governor to get him to get him out of jail,” Amnesty International Treasurer and sophomore Indeah Lane said.
The event saw many smiling students enjoying hot chocolate on a cold day, playing games, hanging out with friends and spreading the love and kindness associated with the holiday season.“The fact that we have all the clubs out when people are not able to see each other in meetings that often, we’re able to come together and you get to experience each club in their own way and with their own games, and it’s a really nice way to celebrate the holidays,” NAHS member and senior Sofia Sanchez said.
