Drunk Driver Crashes into the Water Near South Beach

Around 7 a.m. this past Sunday, a drunk driver drove onto a Miami beach boardwalk and into the Government Cut water channel between South Beach and Fisher Island. Witnesses near the scene heard and saw the 2021 Toyota Corolla crash and immediately reported the accident to Miami Beach police officers. One witness, Andres Asion, even recorded the car drifting in the water after hearing the commotion.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Yandeivy Chavez Dominguez, was able to exit the vehicle and swim to shore. Although divers arrived at the scene to search for more victims, no one was found as Chavez Dominguez was in the car alone when the accident occurred.

Fire personnel and Mount Sinai Medical Center staff concluded that he had sustained no injuries from the accident. Police officers later arrested him for driving under the influence after he failed the sobriety test and admitted to drinking alcohol.

Following this, Beach Towing Services removed the Toyota Corolla from the water channel.
