Aaron Glee Charged in the Murders of Oluwatoin Salau and Victoria Sims

Aaron Glee Jr. was charged with the murders of Salau and Sims on Sept. 22, over three years after thei deaths of Oluwatoin Salau and Victoria Sims.

On June 6, 2020, 19-year-old Black Lives Matter activist Oluwatoin “Toyin” Salau was pronounced missing. After tweeting about being sexually assaulted, Salau’s disappearance in the midst of protests called for national attention.

The Tallahassee Police Department was pursuing Salau’s missing persons case when they found her body along with 75-year-old Victoria “Vicki” Sims. Sims was also known in the community, typically recognized for volunteer work in democratic politics and her involvement in the American Association of Retired Persons.

Shortly after Salau and Sims were found at Aaron Glee Jr.’s home, their deaths were investigated as homicides. Glee was identified as a suspect in the double homicide investigation and arrested promptly after the victims were located.

Salau’s death, disappearance and sexual assault sparked a call for justice for black women. #JusticeforToyin trended after Salau’s sudden disappearance and highlighted the struggle of black women as Black Lives Matter protests took place.

In court, Glee admitted to kidnapping Salau and sexually assaulting her various times before murdering her. Glee also confessed to breaking into Sims’ home and kidnapping her.

Glee was to plead guilty in January, but he insisted on having a trial, resulting in a Leon County Judge sentencing Glee to life in prison.
