What’s Poppin?: Top Five 2024 Fashion Trend Predictions

Isabella Lagarto

The end of 2023 saw the rise of Tabis, the “coquette” aesthetic and “Quiet Luxury.” Continuing with this new style trend, 2024 may see a shift in pant styles, a return to 2010s shoes, 2014 aesthetics and eye-catching prints. Here are the top five trend predictions for 2024:

Slim Pants

While baggy and oversized pants had a great run in 2023, one trend that will likely be seeing a resurgence is slim pants. Although skinny jeans might not be coming back, pant styles like capri, slim straight jeans and an overall more figure-hugging fit are sure to see a comeback after three years of baggy, bootcut and low-rise jeans making the rounds. This may not be a popular opinion at first, but this trend is quietly sneaking upon us.

Jelly Shoes

For those raised in the 2000s-2010s, one likely owned a pair of jelly sandals. This summer classic, made in various colors with sparkling glitter, has been patiently waiting for its turn on the trending list. This sandal is versatile in its options, and after Taylor Swift wore a pair for her “1989 Taylor’s Version” photoshoot, many could see this being the shoe of the summer.

Americana

In 2023, after a summer of celebrating femininity with Barbie, The Renaissance,  Eras Tour and more, hyperfeminine aesthetics became a popular movement. This consisted of bows and shades of pink typically associated with being “coquette” and very “Lana Del Rey.” Del Rey has inspired internet fashion trends with her unique album aesthetics for years and has played a role in the femininity trend of 2023. Now, 2024 will take this femininity and apply it to a more Americana folky way, with a summer of red, white and blue, heart-shaped sunglasses, gingham, jean shorts and taking inspiration from Del Rey’s early albums and early 2010s Tumblr teenage culture.

Animal Prints

Animal prints like leopard and cheetah have long been a recurring trend and wardrobe classic coming in waves, and 2024 will be no exception. Whether it is a mini skirt, fur coat or even a belt, a pop of animal print will surely make the list of trends this year.

Kitten Heels

On a different note, Kitten heels, with their sleek and simple elegance, will continue to rise in popularity in 2024. The shoes can be dressed down with a pair of — most likely slim — pants or a nice dress. These shoes began to gain traction in 2023, and are slowly gaining more popularity. 2023 saw shoe trends like ballet flats that were part of the hyperfine wave as well as “Balletcore” and this will likely develop into the more practical kitten heel.
