I do not even know where to start without spoiling the entire movie. Wicked: For Good might as well win all the Oscars this year, best music, best acting, best costumes, all of them.
Wicked: For Good was honestly incredible, mostly because of actresses Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s dynamic performances. They carried the movie in the best possible way, and seeing the two of them together made the entire story feel so much more emotional and real. Erivo as Elphaba was honestly on another level. She did not just play the role: she became it. Through my personal favorite song in the entire performance, “No Good Deed”, Erivo was able to capture the attention of everyone. Her voice was insane, but what made her performance so good was how she showcased Elphaba’s frustration, loneliness and strength without overacting. Every scene she was in felt vital.
Grande surprised me in the best way possible. Many people were unsure how she would perform as Glinda, but she brought a mix of sweetness, insecurity and confidence that actually made Glinda feel more layered than usual. She did not portray Glinda as just a “dumb blonde” stereotype; she instead showed how much Glinda tries to be perfect all the time and how exhausting that can be. Her acting and vocals fit the role perfectly, making Glinda both funny and emotional at the same time.
However, the best part of the entire movie was their chemistry. Erivo and Grande together made the friendship between Elphaba and Glinda feel real rather than forced. You could literally feel the shift from them not understanding each other, to relying on each other, to finally realizing how much they meant to one another. Their scenes never felt rushed; they felt like two people growing and changing in ways neither of them expected and gaining trust from one another as their relationship progressed.
The song “For Good” was the moment that made everything fall into place. Their voices together were honestly beautiful, but what made the scene hit so hard was how they acted through it. Instead of being overly dramatic, it was quiet, emotional and honest, like two people saying an unwanted goodbye. By the time the song ended, it felt impossible not to be crying.
Overall, Erivo and Grande are the reason Wicked: For Good is as amazing as it is. Their acting, voices and the way they brought out the best in each other made the movie feel truly passionate and emotional, and way more powerful than I expected. It is one of those rare adaptations that actually lives up to the hype, and honestly, they both deserve all the praise they receive.
