From May 2 to May 6, Miami Palmetto Senior High, along with other schools in the district, celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week. MPSH’s Student Council and the PTSA spent time making each teacher feel loved in honor of the countless hours they put into spreading knowledge around Palmetto.

Student Council’s Staff Appreciation Committee organized gifts for the teachers.

“Working in the Staff Appreciation Committee throughout these years has been extremely fun and rewarding,” Staff Appreciation Committee member and senior Rachel Graff said. “Giving back to teachers the love they show us is personally very important and gratifying.”

Graff worked closely alongside the rest of the Staff Appreciation Committee. Together, they gave every teacher and staff a mini succulent.

“I found a website for succulents. Then we all printed out cards to put with them and handed them to every teacher or put it in their mailboxes,” Staff Appreciation Committee member and sophomore Kylie Zimmelman said. “Teacher Appreciation Week shows our teachers that we are grateful for everything they do for us.”

In addition to Student Council’s Staff Appreciation Committee’s gifts, MPSH’s PTSA made teachers feel loved and appreciated by bringing Sushi Maki, the Crepe Maker and baked goods to campus for teachers and staff to enjoy. They also placed appreciation signs in the front of the school for teachers to see as they walked in.

“Being my first year as a teacher, I was excited about getting to know more of the activities that integrate students and faculty as a whole. I was surprised with beautiful gifts like breakfast and plants by the Palmetto community. Additionally, my students were extremely thoughtful when showing their appreciation toward me. I even got my favorite chips,” Honors U.S. Government and U.S. History teacher Jacqueline Muir said.“ Although I’ve only been here for one semester, I’ve learned a lot. I got to learn and love my students and the welcoming faculty. Teachers Appreciation Week showed me how Palmetto comes together to form a strong sense of community.”
