Hunter “Nash” Glickman is one senior who has definitely made the most out of his high school career.

Starting with his Silver Knight nomination in music, Hunter is involved in many activities around the school. His Silver Knight project encompasses creating and coordinating many music programs at Temple Beth Am including the Shul of Rock, the Interfaith Choir, and the High Holy Day Band. He is also involved in music at the school and in the community. He plays guitar and sits in the lead chair of the rhythm section for the Palmetto Jazz Band and for the Coral Gables Community Arts Program’s All-Star Jazz Ensemble (ASJE).

“The ASJE was invited to play in Jazz at Lincoln Center this past May as one of 15 national finalists in Wynton Marsalis’ Essentially Ellington Competition,” Hunter said.

The competition for high school jazz musicians from all over the country, aims to encourage the students to play the music of jazz legends, such as Duke Ellington. The All-Star Jazz Ensemble went up against bands from all over the nation and placed seventh in this prestigious program.

In addition to music, Hunter is active in student government. He is the Student Council Vice President, which includes being the President of the InterClub Council (ICC). This puts Hunter in charge of all 57 clubs on campus.

“Also, this year in Student Council I’ve initiated a “CLEO (Creative Learning and Engagement Opportunities) Council,” Hunter said. “Which comprises of three students of different grade levels being Secretaries of Environmental Awareness on the Student Council Cabinet.”

CLEO is a non-profit environmental awareness institute hosted at Pinecrest Gardens. Hunter represents leading an initiative to get all of the schools in Pinecrest proclaimed as “Climate-Ready Schools,” meaning it establishes criteria for student leaders, faculty and parents to disseminate climate change information to all students at the school.

“I’m expanding it throughout Pinecrest with my connections on the Pinecrest Youth Advisory Council to Mayor Cindy Lerner,” Hunter said. “I am a strong proponent of environmental awareness.”
