Our Knights in Shining Armor: Palmetto’s 2021 Silver Knight Nominees

Denise Vaque, Design Editor

The Miami Herald’s Silver Knight award is one of the most prestigious of its kind in South Florida. It recognizes high school seniors who not only excel academically, but also give back to their communities through service projects. Every year, Andrea Spivak, one of Miami Palmetto Senior High’s AP Literature and Composition teachers and Palmetto’s Silver Knight coordinator, nominates a mix of Palmetto 12th graders for the award. Recognized for their work in a variety of categories, students represent areas, such as science, athletics, journalism, math, art and more. This year, Palmetto students are up for awards in all 15 categories.

The 30 winning students receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Knight Foundation and a Silver Knight statue. The 90 honorable mentions receive an engraved plaque and a $500 award. All nominees receive a certificate.
