On Aug. 26, the Wynwood Business Improvement District (BID) proposed spending an estimated $2 million in support of a new train station in Wynwood that would also service Midtown, Edgewater, Miami Design District, upper Eastside, Miami Shores and North Miami residents. The railway station would tentatively commence with building on Northeast 27th St. and stretch to Northeast 2nd Ave.

Upon approval, the station would potentially start running by 2022. Construction would begin by the end of the year. Voting for the project is expected to occur in late September, but no official date has been released.

Local businesses have banded together to show their support for the project. Led by the Wynwood BID, the Northeast Corridor Coalition formed, which consists of over 40 community businesses and organizations that believe in the project, including the Adrienne Arsht Center for Performing Arts, Miami Dade College, Miami Marlins, University of Miami and Wynwood Restaurants and Bar Association.

The new Wynwood Train Station would provide transportation throughout the city.  If approved, the station plans to connect with four already-existing rail stations including Metrorail, Metromover, Tri-rail and Bright Line. Throughout Miami, multiple stops will exist to accommodate for everyone, whether going to work, restaurants or returning back home.

Additionally, the new station may lead to many economic benefits. Through the project, 2,458 permanent job offerings and 23,500 short-termed temporary ones would open. Commuter rail has also proven to be the more eco-friendly form of transportation compared to transportation by car.
