On Feb. 7, Lionsgate and “La La Land” producer Marc Platt announced their plan to convert the musical film into a Broadway show

The show will be directed by Bartlett Sher, and the music will be composed by Justin Hurwitz with lyrics written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul; the same musical team that worked on the movie.

The famous story follows an aspiring actress named Mia Dolan (played by Emma Stone) and a jazz musician named Sebastian Wilder (played by Ryan Gosling) who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles, CA. The movie addresses themes of romance, dreams and nostalgia, and is often described as a “timeless cultural touchstone.”

After the movie’s debut in 2016, it became an instant fan-favorite, winning six Academy Awards at the 2017 ceremony. Some of the awards include Best Actress for Stone, Original Song for “City Of Stars” and Cinematography. It was nominated for numerous awards as well, including Best Actor for Gosling, Best Picture and Original Screenplay.

This is not the only Lionsgate movie that is in the process of transforming into a broadway show, as “Wonder” and “Nashville” are also headed to the renowned stage.
