With the release of their latest iPhone, Apple had the opportunity to further enhance their power in the electronic industry, however the hype did not match up to the expectations with their launch of the iPhone 4S on October 4, 2011.
Many Apple investors and consumers expected an iPhone 5 filled with revolutionary features, and interfaces. However the iPhone 4S simply does not contain enough innovative technology to meet the raging fans’ demands.
“I just think it is a slightly upgraded iPhone 4 with a new name and people will buy it just because it’s the newest one out,” junior Hayden Bonnen said. “I was disappointed because it was all hyped up to be some revolutionary phone and came to be just a touch up of the iPhone 4.”
The iPhone 4S’s main features include a faster dual processing A5 chip, the Siri voice recognition assistant, compatibility with the iCloud, and an 8-megapixel camera that shoots 1080p high definition. They all can be considered to be great implements, but it merely seems that they are added increments and not major changes.
The most drastic change that customers feel makes the iPhone 4S worth getting is the new Siri voice command technology, which has the capability to understand language power self written text messages, read emails, give directions, state reminders, and various other tasks.
Although, the Siri is revolutionary, customers were expecting even more advanced iPhone 5 technologies such as a 4G network, a new design with a larger screen, and virtual wallet technology.
“I think most of Apple’s users are disappointed that there is not a new 4G server, and that the company may lose some of its value,” junior Tim Lyons said.
Not only were customers disappointed with the new iPhone 4S, but so were investors. The Apple Stock dropped five percent after the announcement of the phone.
“I think Apple stock dropped because the public expected more than Apple was able to deliver. Maybe if they just labeled it as the iPhone 5, they would have gotten a better public response,” Lyons said.
The iPhone 4S is currently slated at the prices of $199 for 16 GB, $299 for 32 GB, and set to go on sale on October 14.
