Drum Roll Please… Palmetto Marching Band Enters Kiss Country Contest

Sereena Gee, Staff Writer

Miami Palmetto Senior High School’s (MPSH) marching band, conducted by band director Mr. Christopher Best, has officially entered the Kiss Country (WKIS) “Battle of the High School Bands” contest. The contest winner will be determined by the number of votes the bands get on their video entries. The band with the most votes as of November 2 receives $5000, the money can go toward anything band-related from flutes to flights.
“The prize money will help us perform in the community,” Mr. Best said. “[It will also help us to] purchase new instruments and literature for the band.”
Palmetto’s video features the band’s performance at the Falcon Sound Invitational in 2012. WKIS holds the battle of the High School Bands annually; however, this is MPSH’s first time competing in the contest. Miami Coral Park Senior High won the prize money last year and they entered again for this year’s battle. The presenters of the contest are Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, U18 Sports Medicine and Miami Dade Technical Centers.
