CREATIVE WRITING: Lockdown from a Dog’s Point of View

I anxiously wait by the door, wondering when my family will return. I long to spend the day outside watching and observing nature around me, but that’s hard to do when no one can let me out. My life has changed dramatically lately and I am not sure why.

Now, my family is always home; they let me out when I ask and they take me on walks all the time. Maybe too many walks if I am being honest my legs can only take me so far for so long.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, “Dogs can contribute to your happiness. Studies show that dogs reduce stress, anxiety and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and improve your all-around health.”

The other day, my family decided to take matters into their own hands and become a groomer, because they could tell I was having trouble seeing. Let me tell you, the cut I usually get did not come out looking so hot.

Dog owners during this time are slightly happier with the company of their furry friend. CNBC says that research shows having a pet actually improves work ethic and lowers stress.

At first I thought this was a blessing, but now it seems to be a curse. When will this be over? When will my family leave me alone? I never thought it would be possible but YES one can have too many belly rubs and treats and walks. On the other paw, I know when this situation comes to an end I will go right back to missing all this attention, so now it is time to make the best of the situation and keep my tail and snout held high.

If your dog could talk, what do you think he or she would say?
