Fantasy Football has become a phenomenon for football fans all over America. It is a fantasy league that allows people to feel as though they have their own NFL Team. Players are able to choose professional American football players from any team and create a team of their own, all though the Internet.
Those that choose to take part in the online leagues are able to complete almost all actions a real coach would, including drafting, trading, adding and dropping players, as well as changing rosters.
“It’s a game where kids and even adults can feel like they’re playing in the NFL,” said sophomore Josh Cohen. “I get really into it.”
It begins with selecting a league. The player is able to either create their own league by inviting teams of friends and family or they can also choose to join a random league. Once entered in a league, the drafting begins. One by one, the participants choose their quarterback, running backs, wide receivers, tight end, kicker, and defensive line. Once everyone’s team has been picked and put together, the games begin.
The scores of the fantasy teams are determined by the individual NFL players’ performance in their real life games. Points are received for touchdowns, passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards and receptions. Players are eager to see how their players perform each game and can do nothing but hope for success.
“My brother is always playing Fantasy Football,” said freshman Jessie Parker. “Sometimes I see him stay up until midnight. He gets really competitive.”
The game becomes very competitive between different leagues and also between individual teams. Teenagers mostly get a kick out of playing Fantasy Football because they get the thrill of being a part of the National Football League.
“I’ve always dreamt of playing in the NFL and Fantasy Football makes it seem so realistic,” said junior Jason Weiss. “I play it every year, it’s the closest thing to my dream.”
