Small Plane Emergency Lands on Rickenbacker Causeway

At around 5;20 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, a small single-engine plane carrying four passengers made an emergency landing on Rickenbacker Causeway in Key Biscayne near the Miami Seaquarium. One of the plane’s wings clipped a Miami-Dade County transit bus carrying 30 passengers, but no injuries are reported thus far.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was a Beechcraft A23A with the registered owner being Daniel Mosquera — a Miami local. Along with hitting a transit bus, one of the plane’s wings came off,  hitting a small post on the roadside. The crash blocked the Causeway off for police investigation until it reopened for traffic around 7:30 p.m.

After the crash, dozens of people from the beach ran to approach the crash scene while heavy police presence and Local 10 News cameras covered the area. Despite no injuries being reported from the bus and the plane, the National Transportation Safety Board plans to conduct a full investigation into the cause of this emergency landing
