Rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs is under fire after a 2016 video resurfaced showing an altercation between him and his then girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. This incident, which occurred in a Los Angeles hotel, comes only a few months after his Miami home was raided on March 25 over accusations of sexual and physical violence as well as sexual trafficking made against him.
In the video, Combs is seen punching and kicking Ventura, then dragging and shoving her and finally throwing a vase in her direction. Ventura is a R&B artist and was Combs’ then ‘apprentice’ in the music industry. Two years after the incident, Ventura cut ties with Combs after a 10-year relationship with the rapper.
This weekend, Diddy posted a video to his social media apologizing for these actions. In the video, Combs states that he “hit rock bottom” and he takes full responsibility for his actions. The apology has come to no avail though, as many on social media have shown their distaste for Combs and his behavior. Although the assault is well documented, Combs can not be charged due to the statute of limitations, which states that crimes, except murder, cannot be charged after five years of the crime’s occurrence.
