On Monday, April 1 seven World Central Kitchen workers were killed in an Israeli Airstrike in Gaza. The workers were part of a program to distribute food to the bombarded Gaza Strip.
World Central Kitchen claims that they coordinated with the Israeli Defense forces meaning that they were aware of the route to Gaza before the aid deliveries. The buses used to transport the food were also marked with symbols of the organization. However, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli military claimed that it was a grave mistake and occurred due to misidentification.
The seven aid workers killed were of multiple nationalities including Palestinian, Australian, British, Canadian and American. U.S. President Biden responded to the event in a statement from The White House, claiming that he is heartbroken and outraged. In addition, he said that Israel needs to do better in protecting their aid workers who are delivering food and much-needed supplies to the area.
