On Wednesday afternoon, two planes sent by Florida Governor Ron Desantis carrying around 50 migrants touched down in Martha’s Vineyard, MA. These migrants, believed to be Venezuelan, were then taken in vans to Martha’s Vineyard community services immediately after their arrival. They were staying in a San Antonio, Texas shelter where Republican Governor Greg Abbott’s representatives claimed that while Abbott was not involved in the decision he encouraged and supported it.

The migrants claim to have been directed onto the plane by a woman named Perla. She told them they would be flown to Boston, where they could receive expedited work papers.

Currently, the migrants are staying at a local church shelter and are receiving help from the local community. The community gave food, beds, clothes and shelter

This flight is a part of Republican politicians’ plan to send immigrants to Democratic states in protest of the rise in illegal immigration since President Biden took office in 2021.
