For the Foodies: Best Apple Treats to Make this Fall

As the air cools and the days shorten, Miami locals look for seasonal foods to help cozy up for fall. These nostalgic, homemade apple-themed recipes are guaranteed to put you into the seasonal autumn spirit.

Apple Pie:

This recipe requires: 1 pre-made pie crust, 3 ½ pounds of assorted apples, 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, ⅔ cup of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract, ¼ teaspoon of kosher salt, 2 tablespoons of butter cut into pieces and 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water (egg wash). Top with coarse sugar.

Spiced Apple Cider:

In order to make the beverage, one must have 10 large quartered apples, ½ of an orange, 4 cinnamon sticks, 1 teaspoon of cloves, 1 teaspoon of whole allspice, 1 whole nutmeg and ½ cup of packed brown sugar.

Salted Caramel Apples:

To make this fall staple, the ingredients required are 8 whole apples, 4 packages of 11-ounce caramel melts, 2 tablespoons of heavy cream, 1 teaspoon of vanilla and a dash of salt. Top with mini M&Ms, crushed pretzels, kosher salt, chocolate chips, etc.

Apple Crumble:

Made for those who prefer a crumbly and savory treat, this treat includes: 12 tablespoons of unsalted melted butter, 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 ½ cups of packed dark brown sugar, 1 cup of old-fashioned rolled oats, 1 cup of chopped pecans, 1 teaspoon of kosher salt, 3 ½ pounds of mixed apples cored and cut into wedges, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice.

Spiced Apple Muffins:

One of the staple baked goods and a combination of spices and apples, bakers must have these ingredients in order to make these muffins: ½ cup of unsalted butter, ½ cup of granulated sugar, ¼ cup of packed dark brown sugar, 1 large egg, 1 cup of plain low-fat yogurt, 1 cup of whole wheat flour, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, ¼ teaspoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg, ¼ teaspoon of ground cloves and 2 cups of baking apples peeled, cored and chopped. Top with dark brown sugar.

Cinnamon Apple Yogurt Parfait:

This fall take on a dessert classic, in addition to yogurt, the recipe requires: 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1 medium crisp apple and ¼ cup of applesauce. Top with additional honey or cinnamon.

Baked Apple Granola:

A perfect topping for yogurt or just to snack on, bakers must have the following ingredients to make this granola: 2 cups of rolled oats, 2 apples peeled, cored and chopped, ½ cup of pecan halves, ¼ cup of dark brown sugar, ¼ cup of raisins, 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 3 tablespoons of melted butter, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Serve on top of milk, yogurt or fruit.
