May 31 marked a historical day for the Paris-Saint Germain soccer club, a day on which PSG won their first-ever Champions League title. PSG fans in France immediately stormed the streets, but what was originally considered a joyous day quickly erupted into violence and chaos. Two people lost their lives, a 23-year-old and a 17-year-old, and approximately 192 people were injured, including 22 police officers and seven firefighters.
Approximately 5,400 police officers were deployed to control the parades, but this could not prevent the casualties. On top of this, over 200 cars were burned, there were over 690 fires and there was an immediate reaction by the French government, which allowed the parades to continue under tight security. At the end of it all, 523 people were arrested, 254 people were placed in custody and they will be questioned about whether or not they were linked to the attacks or know vital information.
