On June 1, many people were shot and killed by what is said to be the Israeli military. Palestinians were gathered around an aid distribution center in Gaza when this occurred, resulting in more than 20 killed and others injured. The Israeli army denied targeting and shooting civilians, stating that they fired only warning shots.
According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, its hospital in Rafah received 179 cases, the majority with gunshot wounds. It was also reported that 21 were declared dead upon arrival. Later that same day, video footage was released showing an armed person and shots fired.
Some people were not even able to reach the aid distribution center because of the gunfire, and others were able to reach the center but left empty-handed. Last week, the program for aid sites began, with some days going well while others were chaotic. Palestinians are reliant on these aid sites for food, and on chaotic days, they might not be able to obtain any.
