PHOTOGALLERY: Hitting into the 2023-2024 Season: MPSH Girl’s Volleyball Team

Nestled in the fall sports season alongside football, swimming, diving, bowling and golf, the Miami Palmetto Senior High Varsity girl’s volleyball team’s 2023-2024 season is well underway, starting with a bang and high expectations.
For senior and Defensive Specialist Sienna Mesquita, the season has presented large hopes of success and triumph. “We’ve played about 10 games so far, we’ve won most of them and only lost three and it’s to the harder teams that we’ve played, I think we’ve had a really, really good season so far,” Mesquita said.
Aside from the promising season’s statistics and game record, Mesquita shares her perspective on the chemistry within the team, fostering an environment of good energy and love amongst each other, with the team being made up of predominantly the same girls as the previous year.
“The Varsity team this year is pretty much the same as the Varsity team last year, so a lot of us already have a connection and I think that’s really good because the chemistry is already there for the most part, so coming back this season everyone’s a lot closer,” Mesquita said. “[Being on the team] is just really fun, we always hang out together, after school we’ll go to team lunches, and in practice, we do a lot of team building exercises because our coach focuses a lot on us having a good relationship and that’s something that we really value.”
For sophomore and Outside Hitter Aaliyah Mixon, the team’s chemistry and good energy play a large part in helping her game and mentality. “One thing my team does really well is we have a really good energy and we like to pick each other up even on our worst moments, it helps my game improve and makes us more successful,” Mixon said.
