After a tumultuous year for their marriage, reality T.V. star Kim Kardashian West now plans to file for divorce from her husband, rapper Kanye West. Following Kanye’s failed bid for presidency, controversial campaign rallies, revealing comments about his family and extensive time away from his children, Kim has decided to separate from her husband of six years.

Kanye’s bipolar diagnosis seems to have affected Kim greatly this year, with Kim writing on Instagram in July 2020: “As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.”

Those afflicted with bipolar disorder experience manic depression and can go through phases of extreme highs and lows, which not only affects their mental state, but their loved ones as well.

Kanye’s 2020 presidential campaign gave him a national platform, and his tweets and rallies did not go unnoticed. He tweeted (and then deleted) multiple times about the corruption of the Kardashian family, how Kim was attempting to lock him up and that he provided the inspiration for the movie “Get Out,” alluding to his interracial marriage. Kanye also shared in a South Carolina campaign rally that he and Kim almost aborted one of their children, North West. North is now seven years old, and this news had never reached the public ear, leading many to assume that Kim had no intention of sharing this.

Following a difficult pattern of troubling behavior, Kim and Kanye apparently reconciled in August to fix their marriage, but as of the first week of 2021, Kim plans to move ahead with divorce proceedings.
