Golden showers reign as Trump era nears

January 12, 2017

US intelligence officials recently informed President Barack Obama and Donald Trump that Russia has made claims to hold personal and monetary information about the President-Elect.

The information was not confirmed by US officials. According to CNN, Buzzfeed, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, reports stated that US intelligence considers the source of the information, a former British intelligence official, to be credible.

As a result, it was given to both Obama and Trump. In addition, it was solicited to heads of Congressional intelligence committees, who received a two-page report last week. Many suggest the briefing was made to prepare the incoming and outgoing administrations in the event that the information was to be made public.

The 35-page report the dossier was based on has become evident through media circles for weeks. Its original publishing by Buzzfeed on January 10 included the disclaimer that it includes “unverified, and potentially unverifiable allegations of contact between Trump aides and Russian operatives, and graphic claims of sexual acts documented by the Russians.”

Trump responded to the report by addressing Buzzfeed and stating, “Fake News- a total political witch hunt!”

He later tweeted, “Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to “leak” into the public. One last shot at me. Are we living in Nazi Germany?”

Trump’s response to the reports was a complete rejection of its occurrence. Fake news has constantly surfaced apparent since the election of the president-elect. Many readers become ill-informed due to untrustworthy stories. This creates a further divided America that cannot unite.

Among other things that Trump has done via social media, he has now advertised the retailer L.L. Bean. This followed owner Linda Bean’s statement on a talk show on Jan. 12 that anti-Trump groups harm American businesses. Bean called this practice “un-American.” She stated, “It’s a case of bullying. I’m not going to back down. I never back down.”

Following her interview, Trump responded on Twitter, causing a backlash against him. His tweet, “Thank you to Linda Bean of L.L.Bean for your great support and courage. People will support you even more now. Buy L.L.Bean.”  created a dilemma that displayed a conflict with his power. He used his position as president-elect to advertise the retailer. Linda Bean also donated a hefty $60,000 to the super-PAC called Making America Great Again LLC. Legally, the PAC can only accept $5,000, but this still occurred.

As the dates dwindle down to Trump’s inauguration, unpresidential events such as this continue to become apparent.
