CNN Indefinitely Suspended Chris Cuomo

CNN indefinitely suspended anchor Chris Cuomo on Tuesday following the release of documents detailing his efforts to assist his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, as he faced a series of sexual misconduct allegations.

The New York attorney general revealed Monday that the documents indicated Chris Cuomo had a greater level of involvement in shaping his brother’s defense than CNN executives’ previous knowledge.

According to emails and a transcript of his testimony to investigators working for state Attorney General Letitia James, Chris Cuomo pressured sources into disclosing information on his brother’s accuser. He then reported back to the governor’s staff and used the information to format responses to the charges.

Text messages between Chris Cuomo and former top-aide to Andrew Cuomo, Melissa DeRosa, further detailed his work and leadership in crafting a defense for his brother. The text conversation also revealed that Chris Cuomo aimed to use his press connections to prepare the former governor’s staff as accusers began going public with their stories.

Working as Andrew Cuomo’s strategist broke CNN’s employee code of conduct. The suspension remains pending until further investigation.

The benched anchor has declined to comment and a second hour of “Anderson Cooper 360” aired on Tuesday night in place of Chris Cuomo’s programming.
