Get Ready to Fall into Sports

September 4, 2018

It is time to get the books out, but as the school year begins, Palmetto students will not only buckle down and study, they will come together for many exciting events.

Sports are on the horizon and school spirit is in the air. The 2018-2019 fall sports season begins with football, followed by volleyball, golf, swimming, cross country, and bowling.

“I feel we are a better football team, like every year within the program you should get better. I feel like we have a lot of really, really talented kids,” head football coach Mike Manasco said.

As the years progress, the football team has expanded and become a better team overall . “I think we are a more talented team than we’ve ever been,” Manasco said.

According to senior Dell’von McIntyre and sophomore Cornelius Collier Jr., both players on the Palmetto football team, defense is our best strength on the field.

The Palmetto football team hopes they can make it to states this year. The players seem convinced that the state championships are in their future.

“We are going to states for sure. We have a lot of good players, and they got me,” McIntyre said.

Along with football season, the girl’s volleyball team already has some wins under their belt in their opening season games.  Compared to last year, junior varsity player Hanna Barczak feels that the team will significantly improve.

“Between [junior varsity] and varsity we’re putting in the time and effort it takes to make it to states,”  Barczak said. “This is our year.”

Palmetto’s girls and boys golf team, coached by Mike Klekotka, is also excited for the season to begin and for palmetto students to cheer them on.

Coming up in the fall season, Palmetto also has a boys and girls swimming team, coached by Michelle Uhle, cross country, coached by Mike Reynolds, and boys and girls bowling, coached by Chris Hirth.

All of the fall sports teams know the importance of commitment and school support and look forward to having a big crowd at all of their events. For more information go to palmettopanthers.org to see all of the sports Palmetto has to offer.
