As Drama I, Acting II, Stagecraft and Comprehensive theater class teacher and Impawv and Thespians Troupe 1298 sponsor, and director of the numerous plays and musicals that Palmetto puts on, it can be said that she wears “many hats”. However, now she can add one more impressive “hat” to her resume as Palmetto’s 2011 Teacher of the Year and Region V Teacher of the Year Finalist.
Affectionately called “Silv” by her students, Silverio encourages many actors and actresses as head of the drama department at Palmetto for six years. Doing a variety of shows such as the most recent “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Rumors” and “Everyman,” Silberio has thrilled Palmetto students and administrations for many years.
“I’ve known Silv for four years and she is the most inspiring teacher I’ve had. She has helped me grow so much with my acting skills,” senior Brianna Bennett said.
Administrators agree that Silverio works hard with the drama department.
“Ms. Silverio is #1,” Dee Jordan, Curriculum Secretary, said. “Her shows are incredible and I have gone to all of them. I can’t wait for Peter Pan. If anyone has not seen one of her plays, they should go see Peter Pan.”
Principal Howard Weiner iss also proud of Silverio’s accomplishments.
“I am so proud of her (Silverio) because when I came here five years ago, she was the first teacher I hired,” Principal Howard Weiner said. “I am extremely proud that Ms. Silverio’s slection as our teacher of the year affirmed my decision to hire her as our drama teacher.”
