Students can always count on Trish Maggio, Student Services Secretary, to greet them with a warm welcome upon entering the office. Maggio works hard in the office day in and day out, helping counselors and students with all of their questions and needs.
“The title ‘Student Services Secretary’ means to me serving the students and parents in any way I can help,” Maggio said.
Maggio has been working at Miami Palmetto Senior High for nine years. She works directly with the College Admissions Process (CAP) Adviser Sally Coords and freshman counselor Cliff LaGuerre. Maggio spends her hours in the office ordering transcripts, making counselor appointments and working the front desk.
Maggio is responsible for organizing the counselors’ agendas with students’ appointments. He also praises Maggio on her natural ability to create a warm and caring atmosphere around the office.
“I look forward to waking up and doing my job,” Maggio said. “Getting to work with my friends everyday is great.”
LaGuerre is proud to have Maggio not only as a co-worker but also as a great friend. LaGuerre says he can always count on Maggio to get her job done.
“She is probably the most energetic individual that I know,” LaGuerre said. “She has the cunning ability to anticipate people’s needs and concerns.”
Although Maggio’s job can get rather hectic, especially during lunch, she enjoys her job and takes pleasure in helping anyone who needs assistance. Maggio always seems to brighten up students and even parents’ days with a smile.
“My fondest memory at Palmetto was on my first day in the office, when the principal, principal’s secretary and the treasurer shared a group hug in the morning,” Maggio said. “The experience showed me the heart of Palmetto, which is something I keep in my mind every day.”
Maggio was a substitute teacher at Palmetto until a job opportunity in the office opened. She seized the opportunity and got the job. Over the last nine years she not only excelled at her job, but has also made lasting memories and lifelong friends.
But there is a lot more to this cheerful secretary; she has performed in many different musicals and plays for 20 years.
“My passion in life has to be performing,” Maggio said. “I’ve wanted to be an actress or singer since I was a little girl, and I got to do it.”
She spent 20 years of her life in Colorado performing musicals such as “South Pacific” and “Annie Get Your Gun,” then moved to Miami and performed for another 10 years. Maggio is still involved in Miami String Project, a local performing chorus. She acts and sings on occasion and sometimes accompanies her pianist husband on stage. She holds a passion for both work and performing arts.
Maggio is a hard worker who never lets the stress of her job get to her. She is always in a joyous mood and helps everyone and anyone who enters the office’s door.
