With quick thinking and sudden outbursts of humor, Palmetto’s Impawvisation Club held a Valentines Day Impawv show that rattled the roof of the auditorium with laughter. The show took place on February 14 and the audience took part in several games.
Of the games that Impawvisation played, the fans’ favorites were “Antique Road Show,” “Dating Game,” and “Cooking Show.” The key to these and all of the other skits was the involvement of the audience and using them as part of the show.
“Well, the turnout wasn’t as large as we expected, but I think we performed well and had fun with the audience, which is really what its all about,” junior Edward Santos said.
Impawvisation, sponsored by drama teacher Elizabeth Silverio, held the Valentines Day show in order to raise money for the club’s future trip to the state competition. During the competition, which takes place in Tampa during spring break, members of the club perform selected pieces and attend workshops regarding improvisation, drama and acting.
Six students put the performance together: juniors Nathan Harris, Ryan Parrish and Edward Santos and seniors Jake Barson, Ali Cruz, and Connor Wells, the president of Impawvisation. Despite the low attendance, the performers thought the show turned out well.
“I thought it was a great success but we didn’t do the best job advertising it, as shown by the 53 tickets sold,” Parrish said.
In preparation for their shows, the Impawv club practices once or twice before each performance. Overall, the Impawv members kept all the audience members on the edge of their seat laughing from the unexpected and unpredictable quips that the show entailed.
“I thought the show was hilarious and well done,” junior Jeffrey Littman said. “All of the actors had good chemistry together and they did a great job coming up with comedic lines on the spot.”
