Homecoming is one of the one important events of the year to show school spirit. Students show their “Panther Pride” through many different ways, whether its wearing their class color, going to the dance, or cheering on the football team at the big game. One of the many traditions of this week is hallway decorating.
Monday morning was the first time that many people saw the transformed halls, and many never know how it all got there.
The four different classes, from freshmen to seniors, along with many of Palmetto’s clubs, decorate the hallways in the school, to later be judged by the administration. Each organization was responsible for either a third, a half, or a full hallway to accessorize. All the classes incorporated their color, and several clubs added a little bit of their own flavor too.
“I think homecoming decorating it great. It really brings out school spirit and gets students active. Personally, I think the sophomore hallway is amazing, but its always nice to have some competition,” said sophomore Max Gold.
Since this year’s homecoming theme is “underwater disturbia,” it was difficult to find that in-between theme. Students had to incorporate sea life of the “underwater” part of the theme, and the dark and gloomy, for the “disturbia.”
For many students, this was a mandatory activity because they are officers, or a part, of a club, but there are also those who just wanted to lend a hand and try and help their class win.
At a school with so much extracurricular activities to offer, there are people who are involved in multiple clubs. These students were seen going back and forth between halls, wherever they were needed.
“I painted a couple posters for English Honor Society and Social Science Honor Society. We met the Wednesday and Thursday before, and had to paint scary things because the theme this year is disturbia,” senior Evan Hacker said.
There was only a two and a half hour period after school on Friday to hang everything up, which meant everything had to be made beforehand.
“We had to prepare everything in advance because we only had a couple of hours to decorate, but overall I think it turned out great,” senior, and class vice president, Adee David said. “And I mean, come on, we’re seniors…we always dominate!”
No matter which class and clubs win, all the hard work will be displayed for the rest of the week for everyone to enjoy, and get into the mood for Homecoming.
