Welcome to the year 1941. It is December 7 and Ronald Coleman’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ is playing when static hits the radio, but then, Augie Hiebert, a short wave radio operator, comes on announcing World War 2 has come to America’s shore. This year’s Holiday show was centered on WPA, a radio station reporting different shows and bringing the audience back to the past of the 30s-40s– a time of war, depression and great performances.
The flashback started with a radio broadcasting station and the night continued with classical music of the old era.
“The whole night was exhilarating and it was a great opportunity for all the performing groups to showcase their talents together under one name,” Chris Fisk, sophomore class president, said.
The stage was set with a menorah, snowflakes and a Christmas tree, overall giving the auditorium a festive personality. Word spread that it was much better than last year’s performance.
“Outstanding. It’s one of the best winter contests we’ve had so far. I think it was great to combine jazz with orchestra and I loved the radio theme,” Rashid Price, junior orchestra member, said.
If the overall experience was amazing, then it’s nothing in comparison to the experience held by the performers.
“For me, when I’m on stage the feeling is amazing and it’s exhilarating. I feel powerful on stage,” Aireen Ferrer, senior Omega singer, said.
This show, with all its trimmings, was difficult to put together but also enjoyable with the coming together of Palmetto’s talents.
“We’ve been working very hard and I just hope that the audience enjoyed watching as much as I enjoyed performing,” Avonlea Veilleux, junior Omega singer, said.
