Sitting at home, doing nothing but eating, sleeping and school work gets repetitive after four weeks. So instead, this quarantine allows time to do something that one would not normally have the time or opportunity to during a normal school week. Rather than wasting the days away in boredom, here are some fun ideas to spend your time:
Whether it be painting, drawing or even tie-dyeing, the left-side of the brain will have to work, eliminating some of the stress the right-side has faced. Making your own creations, whether it takes five minutes or multiple days, can feel extremely rewarding. Another way to express creativity is through social media sites such as Tik Tok, YouTube and Instagram. Through these platforms, anybody can create anything of their choice. Many trends have also emerged through social media, such as making whipped coffee, bleaching your own jeans and many dance challenges. With all this free time, take it upon yourself to try a trend, but put your own twist on it.
Instead of staying cooped up in your house, go get some fresh air. Go outside and take this chance to go for a run, walk your pet, go on a bike ride or swim. Take time to tan poolside on a sunny day. You can also go outside with your family to spend time together and bond, or go by yourself to relax and destress.
Being apart from friends and extended family can make you realize how much you appreciate them. With apps such as Zoom and FaceTime, those that you cannot physically see can still seem closer than ever. Right now, social distancing is key, and although communication was significantly easier while school still occurred, sites such as those make speaking to another person, outside of those you live with, so much easier.
With so many new shows, albums and movies to watch or listen to, this provides a perfect time for you to sit down with family or friends, via Zoom or Netflix Party, and catch up. Binge-watching television shows such as “Tiger King” and “All American,” both of which can be found on Netflix, has gotten very popular, and is a fun way to spend time.
Currently, social distancing remains as the world’s priority and is vital in order to return to our normal day-to-day lives. Instead of going out with others, try some of these ideas in order to keep a positive mentality and have fun. Although quarantine might feel like a waste of time, do something and make it feel worthwhile. Try something new and take time for yourself because once social distancing and public restrictions lift, you will regret it if you do not.
