What’s on every girls mind: the dress

Sidney Sterling, Public Relations Manager

One of the biggest dilemmas a high school girl faces – the search for the perfect prom dress. No matter the dress, she will look back at her prom pictures and think “Oh my goodness, what was I wearing?” When one reflects on their senior prom, their memories are usually full of positive energy. Why not make one of those memories a fabulous dress that sets a fashion statement for their time?

“I feel like people are getting really simple dresses but accessorizing them with a lot of flashy jewelry this year because that is the style,” junior Anna Bensoussan said. “We also created a Facebook page and posted all of our dresses on it, to prevent people from getting the same dress.”

Styles change frequently over time and often come back with a different flair. According to Instyle Magazine, this prom season’s “celebrity look” seems to dominate the fashion scene. The hot styles hitting the Panther Prom runway consist of more lace, more glitz, more glam and more elegant simplicity mixed with statement accessories.

Chunky statement necklaces are a new major trend that has dominated the fashion scene. Dressing up a simple black dress with a chunky necklace of choice and accessories to match instantly makes a bland outfit bold. Of course, many of these necklaces are on the expensive side, but teenagers this fall season found some at stores like Forever21 and Francesca’s with a friendlier pricetag.

“I am wearing a simple white dress and a big necklace to dress it up; that’s the style this prom season,” senior Sam Rousseau said. “I am a pretty simple girl so I stay away from the big bedazzled dresses which make finding matching shoes and jewelry really hard. I think simple is more elegant, and you can accessorize your dress anyway you want.”
