Weight loss: There’s an app for that

All over the world, people have much difficulty managing their weight, exercising and staying healthy. Many do not know what is necessary to keep their body healthy physically and mentally. With the rising advances of technology, individuals can now keep track of how many calories they consume or how many steps they take, helping them keep on the path to a fit lifestyle.

“The new apps count steps and calories to help people loose weight,” senior Alec Pena said. “It can also tell you healthy recipes and tell people what they should not eat. If you are proactive, it helps you stay on task and stay healthy.”

The new health gadgets motivate people to stay on track and seek improvement. Technology is easily accessible to track everyday life with the touch of a smart phone and small sensors that can fit wearable devices.

“The app that I use when I walk tells me every ten minutes when I slack off,” Health teacher, Mrs. Joyce Brislawn said. “It encourages me to work harder when I slow down. I also do weight watching online which lets me keep track of everything I eat, portion sizes and calories. Anytime I do a food log, I realize what I need to eat more or less of.”

Along with apps, active television programs and games can also make a tremendous impact on one’s effort to stay healthy. After all, a significant factor of loosing weight and exercising is the mentality; One can control their health just by thinking differently.

“I do Wii Fit and EA Active which is easy to access because it’s in my house,” Early Childhood teacher Mrs. Michelle Uhle said. The bad thing is accountability because you are the one who has to drive yourself, it’s not like a gym class where there is an instructor to help you stay motivated. When I think positive, technology is my best friend when it comes to managing my weight and staying active.”
