Super Bowl recap

Sidney Sterling, PR Manager

Two weeks preceding the Super Bowl, all everyone talked about was Peyton Manning, Peyton Manning and Peyton Manning. The public failed to realize that the Denver Broncos, led by Peyton Manning along with their record setting offense, had not played or defeated a team with a strong defense yet. The Seattle Seahawks on the other hand, had defeated five teams in their run to the championship, all which were superior to any team that Denver had played.

“Seattle crushed Denver 43-8, just like I had predicted due to their dominating defense,” sports talk show host Dave Mahler of KJR in Seattle said. “The professional teams in Seattle have only won one championship, that was when the Seattle Supersonics won the NBA Finals in 1979. This title is a big deal for Seattle since we have been overlooked as a professional sports city.”

Although most people created bets on the actual game, there are many who bet on “prop bets,” as opposed to the football itself. One of the “prop bets” was how long opera singer, Renee Fleming, would sing the National Anthem. Surprising most, she sang the National Anthem in less than the expected two minutes and twenty five seconds. Despite her operatic voice, she went under, and sang the National Anthem in two minutes and one second shocking “sharp betters”.

“I wasn’t really impressed by Renee Fleming’s version of the National Anthem, but I was really impressed by Bruno Mars’ performance during halftime,” freshman Nati Hazday said. “Of course, Beyonce’s performance at last years Super Bowl was amazing, but Bruno Mars really shocked me and was definitely a performance to remember.”

The outcome most likely shocked a lot of people, but the intuitive football fans could tell that Seattle was a more complete team, and was able to finally win the Lombardi Trophy and bring it back to Seattle.
