South Florida Staycations

March 25, 2016

It seems like every Palmetto student is getting out of Miami this spring break. Whether they are going skiing, visiting colleges or traveling to foreign places, vacationing is popular over the break. Staying in Miami may feel similar to being trapped inside on a rainy day, but there are benefits to staycations.

1- You save money.
Traveling is expensive. Plane tickets, gas, hotel rooms and eating out adds up. Staying in Miami keeps more money in your pocket because you do not have to leave to have a great time.

2- Your backyard is the beach.
Countless tourists pour in over spring break and takeover Miami Beach. You do not have to catch a flight; just drive approximately 20 minutes and you will be at one of the most popular beaches in the world. Take advantage of it!

3- You are not a foreigner.
Overseas, you may stutter broken French and end up ordering pig belly when you really just wanted soup. It happens. You may end up in another region of a country trying to follow foreign road signs. It happens. Here, you know the restaurants, roads, and ins and outs of your city. The stress of trying to fit in or find your way around will not affect you.

4- ULTRA
ULTRA Music Festival attracts thousands of people from all around the world. Not only do you not have to fly or stay in a hotel, you can go with all of your friends and enjoy one of the world’s biggest music festivals, in your backyard.

5- The options are endless.
Be a tourist for a week! Take a trip to Wynwood, the Florida Keys or take in a HEAT Game. All of these activities can be done spontaneously. Unlike a vacation, an itinerary is not necessary when hundreds of venues are a short car ride away. Divulge in high-end restaurants or tan on soft South Beach sand, it is up to you.

6- You are not the only one!
Even if many of your friends are on the slopes, on another continent or visiting their future college, many of them are still here with you. Hang out with your friends and relax. A week-long staycation at home with your friends is not as bad as you may anticipate it to be.
